Michael Glancy is married to Kathleen Glancy to whom he has been married for 26 years. Together they have two children, Devin, 10, and Mali Claire, 8 and three grand children by Mike’s daughters Dawn Byrnes and Megan Glancy. Dawn is married to John Byrnes and together they have two children, Jackson and Matthew, and Megan is married to Zach Marchun and together they have a newborn, Wyatt Utah Glancy- Marchun.
Mike is a long time resident of Wilmington and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He worked with Martin Luther King’s Poor Peoples Campaign in the 60’s and has been active in many issues in the community since that time. He served two terms as the Chairman of the New Hanover County Democratic Party and now serves on the Board of DREAMS Art Center of Wilmington and the YMCA. He is a co- founder and former board member of Cape Fear Habitat with Humanity and a founding board member of the Friends School of Wilmington. Mike also serves on the Advisory board of the Full Belly Project.
Mike has worked with Kathleen in her law practice for 23 years as a paralegal specializing in advocacy of Social Security disability claimants, which work he has performed for 35 years. He is the Editor in Chief of the Social Security Practice Guide published by Lexis -Nexis Publishing and a founding member and current board member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR). In his career as an advocate he has twice testified before Congress on behalf of NOSSCR and has conducted numerous workshops on disability topics at NOSSCR conferences and as a trainer for AARP’s Legal Council for the Elderly.
Mike is a Quaker who has served as the recording clerk for the Wilmington Friends Meeting and in the past has served as the Clerk of the meeting. He is also on the Board of the Friends Committee on National Legislation in Washington, DC.
Mike and Kathleen have been long time supporters of Dreams and Mike currently serves on the Dreams Board as well as the boards of the YMCA and the Full Belly Project.”
