KATHLEEN GLANCY: We stay on top of the social security disability law by attending continuing legal education programs and also many times we are the lecturer. We are training other attorneys and paralegals on social security disability law.
Social security disability claimants usually come in and they are very worried and concerned about their financial security. By definition, a social security disability individual is unable to perform substantial gainful employment. In other words, they can't work.
Our clients are usually older individuals who have developed a progressive illness. Or they can be younger individuals that have suffered a disabling injury on the job.
When I talk to folks, I try to listen to what their conditions are, hear what their limitations and restrictions, talk to them about what they can and cannot do, which doctor has treated them and then go about explaining what we need in order to resolve their claim.
